No, not the ITF email bag. This is from the actual non-digital physical mailbag. I got it from my little nephew Cody last week.

I ran some tests at Rob’s request. CNET has a Bandwidth Meter speed test to see exactly how fast (or slow) your internet connection is.

I’m running about 1130.5 Kbps, wired and running the Google Web Accelerator.

Wired and no Google Web Accelerator I’m running about 700 Kbps.

Just connecting on my wireless network, I get anywhere from in the 600’s to the 1200 Kbps. Pretty inconsistent. Don’t really see a correlation with using the Google Web Accelerator or not either.

This is pretty dangerous, posting on this subject. I really don’t know what I’m talking about. What do these numbers mean? I don’t have a clue. All I know is that dial-up is dead!! DSL forever!

As far as the Google Web Accelerator, I really don’t know that it affects the speed test or not, I don’t understand its operation well enough to make that judgement. Maybe I can get some input on that. I do like it though, I think it does speed up surfing.

I haven’t been very impressed with my wireless router, I would get a different one next time. I can’t even get a half-decent connection from across the room.

Here I am sitting in the laundromat, drinking iced tea and working on my laptop. Big weekend this weekend, no time to blog. Going to OH for a wedding. Right now though I’m working on ITF, tweaking some things here and there.

I got some interesting things in the mail today. Maybe I’ll post about them when I get back.

I need to tweak a few more things yet, but it will have to wait. I’m very late.

ITF Business&Poetic Masterpieces05 May 2005 04:14 pm

I wanted to mention some important news that will bring much rejoicing to ITF constituents everywhere. I have started work on a new poetic masterpiece. It is about bacon. I don’t mean to be breakfast-themed lately, it’s just kinda worked out that way. I don’t even eat breakfast.

But it could be quite a while before it’s finished. Ode to the Egg took close to a year to complete. That might be a good average for me, I’ve had some masterpieces finished in a relatively short time but usually they take me ages. It’s not uncommon for years to elapse between start and finish.

In fact, me’n By we like to collaborate on music and co-write songs. We co-wrote “Strong,” a song on Purpose. Now he has most of the good song ideas, I just help him work on them and finish stuff. So we were hashing out credits for the CD on day, and I mentioned something about “Strong” being one of his tunes. He said, no, that was yours! Ha! Here it was my song and it was so long since I initially started it that I forgot it was mine.

Another bit of biz that I’ve been wanting to mention. Remember my last insightful mention of classic rock? How could you forget. Anyway, I got an email about that post from a friend of mine. He thinks that song is cool. Evidently though he didn’t have the guts to comment and say so! He had to email me so nobody else would know! What a chicken!

AAAAARRRRGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just missed my auction on eBay!!! I was so wrapped up in working for the ITF constituency that I forgot to check it and I missed it by a few minutes! Of course I was outbid! And this is a very rare item that I’ve wanted for over ten years! And this is only the second time I’ve seen it on eBay! I’m very upset!

I’m going to try to relax with another glass of iced tea.

I haven’t posted about my computer in a while, but that doesn’t mean things haven’t been happening. It’s all together now, save for a 3.5″ drive bay 7 in 1 card reader than I haven’t got yet.

Here’s the old case before I ripped some stuff out of it.

This is what’s migrating to the new. DVD+R drive, two hard drives, and TV card. The other PCI card there is actually for my 24-bit studio recording sound card. It’s not actually going back in, I’m going to get a new sound card and hawk this one on eBay.

Here’s the new machine with the drives and cards installed, ready to go.

And here I am working on getting it up and running. Yes, that is a floppy drive hooked up and sitting on the floor. Do not do this!

I needed a floppy to work on the hard drive (master boot sector was screwed up, has been for a month or two) before I reformatted it, so I temporarily yarded the drive out of the old machine and used it.

This is a day or two later after I purchased a new floppy drive for this computer. Probably the cheapest component you can get! This new Sony drive cost me $10.

I’ve been coming across some interesting sound files of various sorts hidden in dusty corners of my hard driver. Maybe I’ll start posting some of them.

I’ve received some decidely negative feedback about my use of language here on ITF. I’m going to implement a few strategies to avoid the posting of said language in the future.

Currently eating: Almond Joy Swoops and blackberry iced tea.

Yesterday Jewel came over and washed dishes. There was a lot. And she did a bunch of housecleaning too. This was no small undertaking, let me assure you.

Hoosierville02 May 2005 04:42 pm

Just amazing. The Indiana House of Reps finally got the Daylight Savings Time bill rammed through, they’ve been fighting over it for who knows how long now. This one poor sap finally changed his vote, after having previously wrote:

“I have and will continue to always vote against this controversial piece of legislation.”

I’m sure there aren’t many that envy his political predicament come next election!

But I’m quite happy that the Hoosierbillies have taken this positive step and joined the rest of us in the present age. My future father-in-law made it clear that he didn’t agree with me though.
