Hoosierville

Here it is Easter weekend, and what do you know but Hoosierville gets dumped on with yet another snowstorm. This is just insane.

So what should I counter this with, but something hot.

My buddy Stanny sent me these pics last summer of field burning in Utopia. They don’t burn nearly as much as they used to of course, thanks to all the environmentalist wackos, but they still do some. Field burning is awesome. I got in on it a few times in my farming career, but not a lot.

Out here in Hoosierville, you need serious snow equipment. Otherwise you’d be buried and stuck in the house all winter.

This is my father-in-law on his monster snow blower clearing off our driveway.

Here’s a pic that will chill you to the bone.

I’ve been having plenty of opportunity to utilize my two secret weapons in the battle with Hoosierville frigidity - Hot Wassail and my special footgear.

Remember a while ago I showed you one of my tricks for keeping warm in these miserable Hoosierville winters? Unfortunately, by last spring those slippers were wore to shreds. I had to sadly throw them away.

I wondered what I was going to do this winter. I needn’t have worried, because look what my sister-in-law Meldoy gave me for my birthday!

And I tell you what, they’ve been getting lots of use.

Church has been canceled now two weeks in a row. A week ago it was ice, yesterday it was snow. We got dumped on Saturday night.

Jewel came home from work in the morning and couldn’t quite make it into the garage. I offered to take over but she wouldn’t let me.

Here’s what the front yard looked like from the shelter of the garage.

At the tractor pull last summer at the county fair in Goshen, this one tractor threw a rod right through the oil pan right in front of us. Pretty cool.

This quick and dirty pic was taken a few days ago through a window, hand-held, deep into digital zoom. I didn’t realize until I looked at it just now on the comp, that looks like a pretty decent buck. We’ve seen quite a few deer behind our house in the field since it’s been harvested.

My buddy Stanny sent me this pic he took recently on top of Snow Peak. There are certainly no views like this in Hoosierville!

Snow Peak is the mountain in the above header.

We flew home from Utopia last week. We flew all night long and got home around 10 or so Thursday morning.

Now let me explain why there is no justice in the world.

My wife has a somewhat rowdy past. I’ve been an excellent taming influence on her, but occasionally I have to really apply the brakes. For example, there have been times in the past where my wife has wanted to vandalize some other people’s property with toilets. I put my foot down, and wouldn’t let her.

Which is easier said than done, this took some considerable determination! She didn’t give up either, she wanted to do it more than once.

But I never caved in.

So we come home from our trip, and what do I find to await me for the good I have done and the trouble I’ve saved from others.

Should’ve stayed in Utopia!
