My wife and her Mom went and picked strawberries. Then my wife told me that they were going to “blick” them.
What ?!! Blick?!
What in the world is blick. Evidently it’s pulling the stems out of strawberries.
Only in Indiana!
In further research, I’ve found that this is a term from the Amish language. Nobody knows how to spell it though. When I keep giggling about “blick,” they all ask me, “Well what do you call it?”
I say, “I don’t know, I guess ‘pulling the stems off!'”

Uh… Paul that would be “capping” them.
Caping sounds like something you do to mennonite dresses.

“Blick” strawberries? You have GOT to be kidding me! You “blick” peas, NOT strawberries……people in Indiana have some strange ways!

I call it “stemming” the strawberries.
Sounds like it’s high time you get back to Utopia where real English is spoken.
“Blick.” Ha Ha!

Oh they mentioned that, you blick peas too.
But it would be preposterous to use “blick” for one and laugh at using it for the other!

EG is absolutely right in each of her three paragraphs.
Positively.
Yup.

Technically, you don’t blick peas and strawberries. You blick aehpsa and apbeahrra (with r’s properly rolled).

Too funny! Blick the aehpsa is right. And it’s capping strawberries, not caping.

Tom, this made me think of a good story when I was in second grade Summer Vacation Bible school. I wanted to tell my teacher that we shelled peas the day before and all I could think of was “blick”, so that is what I told her. Only to get a blank look from her and a few grins from the dutch speaking children, who gave the right word, much to my embarresment. From your Yukon Kin, that still tries to speak Dutch.

Ha ha! My own brother has used the term “blick!” I don’t know if I can handle that!
I don’t think you’d want to use the word “capping” here in Hoosierville, they’d probably think you meant “topper” and were talking about pickups.

Gotta watch them toppers, all right.
