I saw this post about Yahoo Answers, then this post about clicking the exclamation point on the Yahoo home page.
I always kinda wondered who did the Yahoo yodel, so I submitted the question to Yahoo Answers. About a half hour later the answer came. It’s a cowboy singer/yodeler named Wylie Gustafson (here’s a pic), who travels with a group called Wylie and the Wild West.
There’s a boatload of sound clips on their site. They’re not bad, but they can’t touch my favorite cowboy act of all time, Riders in the Sky.

Riders in the Sky eh? Were you aware that they are produced by non-other than my man David Grisman (mandoliner extrordinaire), who owns the Acoustic Disc label? I guess great musicians have a way of finding great musicians. If you haven’t heard Riders in the Sky’s “That’s How the Yodel Was Born,” then you haven’t heard real Cowboy music.

I didn’t know that, but I think that their accordianist (oh the shame, I like a group with an accordian) Joey the CowPolka King has done some of their producing too.
Kyle! I’m known far and wide for my own version of “That’s how the yodel was born!” Kinda. Great song, Ranger Doug at his finest. He wrote it too, I believe.

Good Lord, that guy looks like the face behind the yodel. Hilarious. I never actually thought to check it out but that’s what ITF is for. That’s why I keep coming back for more!
