Misc Audio from the AHQ Archives
Before AHQ recorded Purpose, we did some recording experiments. As I feebly recall, we did a trial run recording “Trusting in a God Who Cares” one track at a time.
It wasn’t a raging success in all the ways I hoped it would be, but it was an interesting experiment and we learned some valuable things. I don’t remember what they were, but I know we did.
Anyway, I think that’s where the following file came from. Here is the tag to “Trusting in a God Who Cares,” it’s a little better than the actual one on Lookin’ Up.
Trusting Tag (303KB)
Notice the gallons of reverb, that was to make By happy. Also notice the doubled bass. Since this was an experiment, we experimented with that too.

Yeah, that IS an awesome tag. Why didn’t you patch it in on the final version? The reverb COULD definitely be cut, though. I am not a reverb fan. At any rate, I really do think that tag is superior to the one that made it to the album.

I hit something wrong when I went to put my identifier on the previous statement and it posted too quickly. I’m EG.

I neglected to clarify, this was done long after Lookin’ Up was released.

Hopefully you meant it’s a better tag after you would reduce the reverb to a reasonable amount??
I enjoy trying to follow your voices; it’s hard sometimes. Like here, David hits the top end in falsetto?? Is that an effort to coordinate vocal tones for certain vowel sounds, to maximize the possibility of a solid overtone or what?
Another inside question-are your overtones in the tags genuine, or does the digital reverb add that, or are some of them overdubs? I mean, you need a decent acoustic enviroment to produce them naturally, so I’m curious. There’s no way you guys could “reach” that one in “Keep in the Middle of the Road”!
Just in case this is classified information, you can email me. I mean, this is something your fan base doen’t need to know! I’m just a fellow recording producer/engineer/whatever-other-good-title-you-can-come-up-with…
