Cell phone stuff really gets me irritated. I’m all for raging capitalism, but the cell phone companies are flirting with outright bamboozlement.
Take Verizon, for instance. They’re probably the leading cell service provider, but in my opinion they’re way overrated. They have the best coverage, other than that they are garbage.
I could go into graphic details and illustrations backing up my infallible argument, but I don’t feel like wasting any more time on the subject. But trust me I can back it up. Don’t believe me though, see if I care. I’m sure you already have a Verizon phone anyway.
I’ll be waiting for the T-Mobile wisecracks and “my Verizon cell is the greatest thing ever in the history of the world” rantings in the comments. But I mean it, if it was up to just me and I was starting from scratch I would seriously consider T-Mobile again.
Anyway, what brings all this on is today we went in to the Verizon store and got a new phone for my wife. She had an ancient brick that I had busted the antenna off of, and for 5 bucks more than a new antenna cost (with a renewed contract of course) we just got a decent new phone.
It seems really nice, it’s an LG VX 3200. Much better than the brick!
As an aside, ever since we got married, my wife’s cell phone has suddenly quit ringing. That thing used to be going off constantly, but now it sits peaceful and silent all day long. Interesting. She adds: Sigh!
I think that means you can call her again.

DOWN with cell phones period! Oh how they annoy me. I don’t like any phone, but cell phones really get on me because people are SO rude with them. I’m sorry, but if a friend calls you while you are sitting in a restaurant with OTHER friends, you don’t sit and chat for half an hour! You either LEAVE the table and take it outside OR preferablly you tell them you will call them back. ARRRGH! You simply do not sit there and eat while talking on the phone. Rude, rude, rude! I would like to teach cell phone etiquette! Oh how I could go on!
And OH how I dislike phones.

Cingular is serving me well. And both Stan and I like our most recent phones acquired through Cingular–the Nokia 3120. Little, but more dependable than even our previous workhorses. And the people we talk with on the phones say that we sound better than before. There’s never a perfect plan and/or phone, though, unfortunately.

Tom you sure hit the nail on the head regarding Verizon. All cell phone services are way over priced for no better than the quality is. (I feel the same outrage at the price of printer ink cartridges.)Its the year 2005 and there are still many poor signal areas around. We have been with verizon for several years now mainly because they do seem to have the fewest “dead areas”. I appreciate what AG said regarding poor cell phone etiquette. I always put my phone in “silent” mode when in a restaurant and try to talk quietly if I have to take the call. I have to say however, that I could not do without one as a self-employed electrician. It has become a very important necessity for me. It would actually cost me money not to have one.

I am with you Ag! DOWN with those cell phones in restaurants or other public places of supposed one on one conversation over a candle or with friends or at a concert. You sit there enjoying the company you are with; then the neighor at the next table or in front of you gets a call and another and another, on and on……Makes me want to grab the thing and drop it in the tea pitcher, sorry Tom, or out a window.
Other than for business (take it outside) or emergencies (take it outside) please use the silent or off setting. Especially while driving (unless you have hands free, but pull off the road to talk)!
I had one when I was self-employed, but I turned it off when in a public place and off duty, same with the pager. Was sooo glad to get rid of the thing. But now they are going off during the Worship service in Church! And it is the preacher’s phone! Help, Ag, start that class on etiquette soon, please!

Thank you, Ag! I have this pet peeve as well. I’ve seen rude usage of cell phones too often. I mean, I was once a waitress. I went to a table to take an order and the guest was talking on the phone and refused to get off and also wouldn’t tell me what they wanted me to do! I LEFT the table!
Oh, and another time, I was sitting in a wedding and someone’s cell phone went off. I was Horrified!

You are right, senor, I am going to stand up for Verizon. (grin) I have had very few problems with my Verizon cell phone, and at this point I don’t think I will EVER switch to “T-Immobile”.
I agree that cell phone etiquette is generally disregarded and maybe has become an epidemic. Last week I was at a concert, and the BASS SINGER’S CELL PHONE started ringing while he was on stage!!

The Covenant Four that I blogged about. I forgot to mention it!
I think you would like Symphony of Praise. There might still be one in that Christian Book store in Goshen. :-)
