I just got off the phone with a lady who said, “This is something or other CRC ”
“What’s CRC?”
“Something Reading Club, do you watch more than one hour of TV a day?”
“No.”
“When you do, do you prefer a comedy, drama, etc. etc?”
“No.”
“You don’t prefer any of those?”
“I don’t watch much TV.”
“Oh. Can I have your age for advertising purposes?”
“No.”
“Do you wish to participate in this survey?”
“No.”
Small exhalation of exasperation. Click.
Now, which one of us was rude? If she would have asked the last question first, she would have saved herself some time!

AMEN, Brother !
And I like the phone answering message that someone once used for dinnertime … when the calls always seem to come in. It goes:
“Hello…You’ve reached (so & so name or number)”.
“If you’d like to leave a message, please do so after the tone. If you’re a telemarketer, please include your home phone number, and the approximate time you prefer to have dinner with your family.”
Hateful I suppose .. But appropriate.
