You never know when a new word is going to whap you upside the head. Today my Mom used the word “ecru” and my wife didn’t even bat an eye.
I said, “Wait a minute, WHAT did you say !!”
My wife and mother-in-law knew what it was, I had never heard the word in my life. It means light brown or something.
I wasn’t alone, though, so that made me feel better. My father-in-law had never heard it either, and he’s been around a LOT longer than I have!!

You defintately aren’t alone…I’ve never heard that word either. Why can’t people just say brown?

I keep forgetting to tell you, Tom, and reading about your kin reminded me.
As I was walking from the ticket counter to my departure gate at PDX on Tuesday, who should I see exiting the airport but your folks and Hope (I think that’s right) and others.
Pretty neat!
(And howdy again from an Internet cafe in Guaymas, Mexico.)

One time we were in a furniture store looking at some chairs. The salesman told my mom that one was “taupe”. Later mom mentioned something about the tan chair, and he corrected her–“That’s TAUPE”. When he showed her another chair a few minutes later he said, “Now this is NAVY…”. :D

All these wierd names for colors! This one probably came from the same name factory as mouve and toupe. I’ll never understand why we have to have all these fancy color names. It’s like the world of food, why can’t we just have mashed potatoes, gravy and meat?

I should have added that the reason I added the food bit is because reciently our dear southerly brother Mark shamed me into eating some sushi. Actually it was more like a quick chew and swallow followed by gag, gag, gag. I can hardly say that awful word without my throat restricting and stomach preparing to retch.

Here’s another one my husband likes to use: chartreuse. Look it up.

Blue is a color. Orange is a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is. :-)
I HAVE heard of chartreuse. I’ve heard that bass fishermen like to use that color of fishing lures some places!

Can’t just say brown because ecru isn’t brown. Although beige and ecru are quite simalar….

Color distinctions are of utmost importance. Infact each color has 22 values although most accomplished artists use only 10.

The color ecru is basically off-white. At least it is on the skeins (look at that one!) for cross-stitch. I know ecru!

Hey, ITF posted #12 today!
Maybe this blog will go from a dead ecru to a living green (tea) sometime soon.
Just leave the flung laundry and the stacked dishes and the beckoning pictographic opportunities, ITF. Pour us out some tea. The masses are waiting and withering. And ecruing.

We want tea!

Having lived a long and interesting life, thanks in part to new words, altho less frequently as I’ve aged, I mean matured, I thought, “oh they saw a bird, and Tom don’t know what they are??” Alas, after reading comments here, I must have been thinking of a relative of the emu.. certainly not a color. One of our cars is sand (color) and I can’t remember what the other one is caleed, but it’s not a basic color..just remembered it’s dune.. Phew..
lunch is over, so it’s back to work.. (Show us some pics of your house)

Never mind the tea.
I hereby declare this blog to be called IF.
Letter rip.
