My recent concert post gathered me a surprising amount of private feedback. I’m wondering a little why it wasn’t done publicly, but that’s fine. Most of it was positive, but I was taken to task a little for my less-than-glowing evaluation of Marshy Hall. As I told them, a critique is just one person’s opinion. And that was wonderful if his tragic-sounding voice worked for them, but it sure didn’t for me.
I was thinking later after I wrote the post, tragic, that’s what he conveys. It’s like he’s always singing about something tragic. Which would be fine if he actually was, but a steady onslaught of undeserved vocal tragicness is rather wearying.

I haven’t minded Marshy when he sings with the Gaithers. His solo on your link is pretty tragic. Personally I think he trys to sound too contemporary. (gag, again and again) I’m almost to the place of concluding that contemporary and Christian shouldn’t even be used on the same page, never mind as a discription of something. Have mercy on us!! Hopefully nobody chokes, I said “I’m almost to the place of concluding”. Maybe it goes way back to my roots! John

Tom, I would like you to listen to a song titled “Homesick” by Mercy Me and tell me what you think. I know it has nothing to do with what you have discussed here, but I figured it was easier to contact you without having to go to my e-mail. As I get older, I try to simplify. Also, I had to think of you yesterday as I was barbequing some tuna, marinated in Italian dressing. I had to eat an extra piece just for you. Have a good weekend. another bro…dt

Fair warning about “Homesick” Tom, it is a rather emotional piece. :) I happened to hear Mercy Me in concert as they performed it, it was written after the group experienced several personal losses. As to your early preference to CCM, I do remember “sneaking” my Amy Grant, etc. tapes to your house and listening to them. Will you get into trouble now? :)I hear the Cathedrals with, I believe, the Florida Boys once probably 20 years ago….I did like that (back then). :) Just to clarify, I think your taste of music is finely tuned and well developed. Myself, I appreciate having a wide range to play depending on what I’m doing….housework, praise & worship time, intercession, “nothing”, etc. You just need a little more exposure to the “rougher” musical genre. HAHa! :) (Just kidding!)
