Funeral for Lance Cpl. Tyler J. Troyer
My nephew Tyler was buried on Wednesday. Here’s the newspaper article. The obituary is online also, as well as a memorial guestbook.
Update: The Sunday Oregonian article is online, as well as couple of pictures.
The funeral was held at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center, around 700 people attended.
My brother Galen opened the service.
Oregon Governor Kulongoski spoke. He also presented Tyler’s mom with the Purple Heart awarded to Tyler.
A Marine Honor Guard served as pallbearers.
The Marines gave a 21-gun salute at the graveside.

That looks really good Tom. I am glad there are some pictures like these. I was proud of my dad (your brother, Galen) and what he said. It’s still really hard to comprehend that Tyler is gone and we won’t see him again here on the earth, isn’t it? Hope you have safe travels today on your return trip home.

Tom, this is Rob’s wife. Could you put a picture of your brother Dave on here? I’m not sure if I remember for sure which one of your brothers he is. Sorry your family has to go through this loss.

I forgot to mention, those first three pictures were from brother John.
Yes, I was proud of Galen too, and also Dave in the incredible strength and peace he has been displaying in all of this.
Dave is on the bottom right in the ITF brothers pic.

I was so glad you both were able to come for the service. And thanks again, Tom, for all the time and effort you put into your blog–especially all the memorial related links. I don’t have a lot of time on the net, so I’ve really appreciated them. It was great to meet Jewel.

Tom, http://www.IraqWarHeroes.org/troyer.htm Check it out. Also the http://www.troyerdiamonds.com has some pics from the memorial. I can’t begin to put into words all that people are doing to remember Tyler. I just wish I was more computer savvy so that I could be the one doing it. Thanks for all you do and I love you brother. I like the poster that said “freedom isn’t free.” It’s easy to say it until the picture on it is someone you know and then you people start realizing the terrible cost others are going through for our freedom.

sorry, there was a technical error. The sentence that said, “then you people” should just say, “then you”. It sounded like I was a liberal bush-hater there for a second.
